'Never content with maintaining the status quo, Honda asked honest opinions from BF175/200/225 nationwide consumers as to how this flagship series could be improved even further,' Schultz said. 'Honda engineers have refined these outboard engines to deliver satisfaction far beyond customer expectations, with holeshot performance that's equal to higher-rated horsepower outboards and unparalleled fuel efficiency.'
The incorporation of Honda's revolutionary Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST) air/fuel ratio linked ignition timing control technology provides outstanding hole shot performance to get boats on the plane quicker than ever before. Activated by sudden throttle movement, BLAST provides the greatest amount of torque at the very moment it's needed. Reducing fuel by five percent over the previous BF175/200/225 was achieved by a combination of an O2 feedback system and simple lean burn system - a first in the outboard motor industry. Referred to as ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor), the system is activated when the engine is in mid-range cruising rpm and the throttle is steady. Extensive testing concludes that the resultant fuel efficiency is equal to Honda's BF150 linear air-fuel lean burn system. In addition, other notable changes such as the new gearcase - with an even more dramatic hydrodynamic profile - reduces water resistance and offers better acceleration, and a new water intake screen offers for better cooling for maximum motor efficiency. A freshly-designed anti-cavitation plate reduces engine splash and additional sacrificial anodes deliver increased corrosion resistance for extensive durability. Numerous minor model changes have enhanced the maintenance and rigging of the outboard engines at the dealer service level.
