Ali Masters, Clevedon's young windsurfing sports star concluded the windsurfing season in style , securing the national sports title in men's RS:X class at the annual RYA/UKWA national windsurfing championships.
Having won a bronze medal at the world sports championships in the Youth Raceboard class in August, 18-year-old Masters was anxious to add a national title to his silverware collection.
Restricted by impossible winds gusts of up to 40 knots on the second windsurfing day, the championships, held at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy, were decided by Saturday's racing which saw contrasting light shifty winds creating challenging conditions across the windsurfing classes. Masters, who currently trains in the elite Skandia Team GBR stable, put together an impeccable three-race windsurfing performance on the sole day's racing winning all three windsurfing races, finishing top of the leader board, proving himself a dominating windsurfing competitor and securing the title; RS:X Men's National Windsurfing Champion 2009.
The windsurfing sports event was run jointly by the RYA and UKWA, traditionally concludes the competitive windsurfing season and saw over 120 of the UK's top windsurfing competitors battle it out for national titles in their respective classes with Masters' fellow RYA squad sailors picking up an influential haul of silverware.
