europeanraceboardThe record windsurfing entry of 114 sports surfers from 15 nations in the Raceboard World Championship 2009 sailed 12 races during the Championship. “This is the largest fleet in a World sports windsurfing Championship of the Raceboard Class, we have seen in over 20 years”, Murat Tueten from the German Sports Windsurfing Association, who organized the windsurfing sports event, and raved.

It was a tight finish before the world sports windsurfing title in the Raceboard class was determined on Saturday June 11, 2009. Sports competitor Maksimilian Wojcik could defeat the windsurfing German challenger Moritz Martin in a tight finish. Martin placed second, followed by the Slovakian Patrik Pollack.

“Within these changing conditions only all-rounder windsurfing competitors like Martin or me could win the sports windsurfing series and I am very excited about the windsurfing title in the end”, said the 25 year old surfer from Poland. “I was extremely nervous before the last windsurfing races started and the pressure was on.

It's a huge success so far to win the championship after a windsurfing world title in the youth class at the age of 16. I enjoy the atmosphere in the Raceboard class, it is a pure amateur windsurfing sport and very different to the Olympic Windsurfing RS:X class in which I train as well”, said the polish surfer, who began for the first time during the Warnemuende Week.

Although beaten, the windsurfing competitor from Germany was excited about his vice title in the end. “I could win the last windsurfing race, which was good for my motivation and my positive windsurfing goal was to be among the top three, so it is an awesome success for me. I experienced some spin outs on Saturday due to fin problems that have cost me some deciding points, as it was very tight”, Martin said.

Patrik Pollack from Slovakia secured the Bronze. Gabi Schlotmann from Germany won the women’s windsurfing title clear ahead in front of Martina Hruba and Jana Slivova, both from Czechoslovakia.
