For the first time in Costa Rica, a number of lucky wakeboarding enthusiasts will be given the opportunity to ride alongside and learn from one of the best wakeboarding competetors in the world.

Ben Greenwood, a.k.a. "Benny G", professional sports teamrider for leading wakeboarding brand Liquid Force, was invited by FlyZone Costa Rica to teach 20 fortunate people, and therefore bring wakeboarding sports skills in Costa Rica to a higher sports level. And, of course, to show the tico's his skills in some spectacular wakeboarding demonstrations.

Five groups consisting of 4 wakeboarding-students together with Ben Greenwood will hit the water at Puerto San Luis for the weekend, beginning Friday afternoon, Aug 7th. As a start to the sports wakeboarding event, Friday morning FlyZone will attempt (weather permitting) to set a record by trying to get 81-year old(!) Nuevo Arenal-resident, David Butterfield up on a wakeboard. Wakeboarding is a fairley new sport that originated in the USA in the early 90's. Wakeboarding is best described as a cross between waterskiing and snowboarding, where the ‘rider' (wakeboarder) uses the wakes of the boat to jump and perform various manoeuvres.

Until recently few people in Costa Rica had ever heard of wakeboarding. Now it is gaining popularity relatively fast through sports events such as "AquaFest 2009" that was held at Parque Sabana in March this year and the monthly wakeboarding clubs that FlyZone Costa Rica hosts at Lago Arenal. FlyZone Costa Rica is the only professional wakeboarding school in Costa Rica and is based at Lago Arenal, Guanacaste.
