3798184797_961ceea5c7The last A-Class vessel to catch the B-Class Lady Nathalie (Lady in Red) during the annual St. Valentines day Catch Me If You Can Race was the Red Stripe two years ago. In 2009 the Lady Nathalie secured her prize money by holding off a powerful fleet of A-Class sail boats including the renowned Red Stripe skippered by Lundy Robinson.

The race will get underway at Montague Beach on Saturday February 13th marking the 23rd edition of the anticipated race hosted by Eleazor, 'The Sailing Barber' Johnson. According to Johnson, this years race event will be even bigger and better than it has ever since its founding in i987.

Johnson is thrilled of the fact that the majority of top A-Class sail boats and top sailors in the Bahamas have competed in the Catch Me If You Can race event. After 22 years of racing Johnson has won 12 out of the 22 races. Over the years, the St. Valentine's Day race has been an enormous event attracting hundreds to Montague every year. Johnson stated they hopeful of staging the actual Catch Me If You Can challenge race that will commence over a 12-mile course on Sunday. The Lady Nathalie will be granted a 25 minute head start over the A class fleet. "The A Class boats are fast, although my sail boat is trimmed and ready to sail too, and I expect to see them scatter out behind me, so if they can actually catch me, they will get paid," said Johnson. The New Courageous, Red Stripe, Who Dat and the New Thunderbird previously confirmed their participation in the race event and there were only two spots remaining at the beginning of the week. On Saturday, there will be an exciting day on Saturday with the Optimist race for junior sailors beginning at 9 am with about 20 sail boats scheduled to compete in four races. The juniors will be followed by a three-race series featuring B Class sail boats, with one race immediately after the next. The onshore activities will feature an abundance of food and drinks, music, and a play area for children. The race is jointly sponsored by Sir Durward 'Sea Wolf' Knowles, the Ministry of Youth, the Commonwealth Sailing Association, Floyd's Cafe, Sports and Culture, Williams Drugs, Wallace Auto Sales, Gardiner Supermarket and Nassau Plastic.
