Sailor Brad Van Liew, a South Carolina resident is currently making his final preparations as he plans to sail the solo Velux 5 Oceans around the world race.
Currently docked in a Charleston marina, Van Liew will sail his 60-foot racing yacht, departing September 5th for France for the solo Velux 5 race that begins there in October.

Saturday will see Dutch teen Laura Dekker depart from Portugal to begin her bid to become the youngest person to sail around the world solo, her manager said. "Laura is scheduled to leave tomorrow," Peter Klarenbeek told AFP by telephone on Friday from Portimao where Laura, 14, arrived a week ago after a 10-day test cruise from the Netherlands with her father on board.
"Everything is ready to go," he said.

Match racing crew and Olympic campaign sailor, Annie Lush, has joined the Tall Ships Youth Trust as an ambassador to assist in promoting the work the Trust does for the development of young people through sail training.
Lush has participated in three Olympic campaigns and has her hopes set to secure the gold medal at the Olympic Games 2012. In addition, Lush also holds the current number one world ranking for women's match racing and won last years ISAF Sailing World Cup.

Brilliantly-colored sails will pack the waters along the Wildwood beaches to kick off the Wildwoods 26th Classic Cup Hobie Cat Races Saturday, August 14th through Sunday August 15th between Spencer and Schellenger Avenues on the beach.
Even though it's one of the East Coast's last remaining ocean Hobie Cat Races, it's really the highly challenging race course that draws the annual attention of massive crowds of sailors and sail boat enthusiasts to the Wildwoods Classic Cup race.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is not just all about whats behind the glass. They also offer the opportunity for the public to discover the wild-life of the bay in a hands-on sort of way, as well.
