The 1925 Mediterranean-styled mansion built by William K. Vanderbilt II is now the centerpiece of the Fisher Island Hotel & Resort, a 216-acre property surrounding a spectacular 45-room boutique hotel.
Additional amenities include a new private beach club, tennis center, marina and a restored 9-hole professional golf course. Accessible by boat, ferry or helicopter only, Fisher Island is named after Carl Fisher, who traded the island to the dashing Vanderbilt heir in the 1920s in exchange for a 250-ft. yacht, the Eagle. Vanderbilt and his wife surrounded the mansion with lush landscaping and superlative guest cottages, entertaining the celebrities of their time in fine style. The resort is located just minutes from Miami Beach boasting its spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and the iconic Miami skyline. The island's famous residents include Ricky Martin, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts and André Agassi. Stage two of the scheduled restoration will focus on the island's spa and other facilities.
