More than 30 participated in the 27th Micronesian Open Windsurfing Cup held over the weekend on the shores of Micro Beach. Windsurfers, who mostly came from Japan, were divided into four divisions, namely the men's open, masters, women's open, and beginners.
A fun race featuring selected participants from the four divisions was added into the two-day event. Hideaki Otake bested 18 other participants in the men's open division after collecting 8.9 points in nine heats. Otake received a wooden plaque and a windsurfing board during the awards ceremony held Sunday night at Kili Café at Hyatt Regency Saipan. Also receiving wooden plaques were runner-up Masataka Hattatori and third placer Daisuke Inaba. Masataka earned 10.2 points and besides the wooden plaque, he also took home a set of windsurfing sails. Inaba settled for third and a harness after scoring 16.8 points.

The Samui Regatta, Ko Samui is a sailing tournament, which is a great attraction of this island every year. This annual event has acquired international acclaim and has thus become one of the major sailing events of the island. Samui Regatta is held not only once every year, but also every month. The monthly event is known as Samui Yacht Club Regatta.

The $8.8 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League, sponsored in part by Yamaha Outboards, will visit on March 28th for a third of five regular-season events listed below.
As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $45,000 in cash, including a top award of $6,000 in the Boater Division. If the winner is a participant in the Ranger Cup incentive program, he or she will receive a $2,000 bonus from Ranger Boats. If the winner is not a Ranger Cup participant, Ranger will award $1,000 to the highest-finishing Ranger Cup participant.
