The decline in attendees has been attributed to the unexpected death of Shaikh Mubarak Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, a member of the UAE royal family who passed away on February 24th in Abu Dhabi. Following his death the Presidential Affairs Ministry had declared three days for official mourning across the country.
The boat shows organisers, Informa Yacht Group said the event underlined the massive potential of the yachting business in the Middle East.Franck Dailles, IYG's Group Director, Franck Dailles said: "The boat show is playing an indicative role in further strengthening claim to be a worldwide superyacht destination for this region." Thirty superyachts were docked on Yas Island, and brokers report that negotiations have since transpired numerous multi-million pound deals.
