ncl-epicNorwegian Cruise Lines' new mega ship Epic is currently winding up her first "official" cruise after media and travel agent hype and a series of short, "maiden" voyages on both sides of the Atlantic. The Epic is able to carry 4,200 passengers, is 329 metres long and 40 metres wide and ranks fifth in size compared to other mega cruise line ships.

Using the double occupancy figures (with more sharing volume, this can be at least 10-per-cent higher), Epic and Royal's two giants will load nearly 15,000 Caribbean-bound guests per week.

The Epic's home port is based out of Miami, where it is now, while Oasis and Allure reside in Fort Lauderdale. The Epic cruise liner is scheduled to sail eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. Eastern cruises featured ports of call include: St. Martin, St. Thomas and Nassau. The western cruise trips will be stopping in Costa Maya, Roatan and Cozumel. Cruise line Epic boasts 20 dining facilities and, as with others in the mega-cruise ship class, nearly half of these will cost you extra. The cabins are somewhat of a different feel, as there are no square walls. And if you're looking for the typical washroom, there isn't one.

The shower is one cabinet, the toilet is another and both are positioned behind frosted glass doors. The sink has been moved outside these two cabinets and is situated in the main cabin. However, the 128 "solo" cabins are very popular. They include their own lounge-and-meet area and, at just over 30 square metres, they are beautifully designed. With all the dining areas, entertainment centres and special features, it appears Norwegian Cruise Line was going for a Las Vegas type look and appears they've succeeded.

The following are few examples of the cruise ships pricing:

*Nov. 27 departure: Inside stateroom $659, Balcony $949, Solo cabins $849.

*Jan. 22 departure: Inside $759, Balcony $1,049, Solo $909.

Prices are in U.S funds and are subject to change.
