Today, Norwegian Cruise Line announced it would base a ship in Tampa in 2011 -- for the very first time. Norwegian Cruise Line says the 2,240-passenger Norwegian Star Cruise will sail seven-day Western Caribbean voyages out of Tampa on a seasonal basis only beginning on Oct. 16, 2011 and running through April 8, 2012. The entertainment cruise ship will begin departures on Sundays with ports of venue including: Bay Islands, Belize City, Belize; Honduras, Roatan, Costa Maya and Cozumel and Mexico along with two days at sea.
In comparison to the legendary Carnival Cruise liner the Star Cruise ship boasts a much larger capacity accommodating more passengers and will be the largest ship sailing out of Tampa. Norwegian cruise line says it will also station three cruise ships in Miami during the winter season of 2011/2012: The Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Epic. The Norwegian Epic entertainment cruise will be alternating seven-day Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises out of Miami. Norwegian Pearl is scheduled for seven-day Western Caribbean cruises to Jamaica; Great Stirrup Cay; Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, George Town, and Cozumel. The Norwegian Dawn cruise will host 10- and 11-day Southern Caribbean voyages. In addition Norwegian also announced that the Norwegian Sun will return to Port Canaveral for the winter season of 2011/2012, providing alternating seven-day Eastern and Western Caribbean entertainment cruises.
