Norwegian reports that the two-year-old, 2,400-passenger Norwegian Gem will replace the seven-year-old, 2,224-passenger Norwegian Dawn cruise ship on its Bermuda voyage out of New York beginning May of 2011.
The Norwegian Dawn cruise liner will then replace the smaller, older Norwegian Spirit on the cruise line's Bermuda ran out of Boston. The entertainment cruise ships will set sail to Bermuda weekly from May through October, to port on King's Wharf for three days ( with the Gem departing on Sundays; Dawn departing Fridays). The Norwegian Gem cruise liner is the newest ship in the Norwegian fleet and features an array of amenities such as: a four-lane bowling alley and "ultra-lounge." Norwegian's Bermuda announcement came as the cruise line revealed other major changes for 2011, such as the beginning of year-round entertainment cruises out of New Orleans and also plans to home-port a ship in Copenhagen for the first time. The changes arrive as Norwegian cruise line prepares to launch its largest entertainment ship ever, the 4,200-passenger Norwegian Epic, later this year.
