Throughout the past few months Florida has been benefiting from its gambling expansion , and Jacksonville is the next city in line to take advantage - although, not within the city. The city of Jacksonville is no stranger to day cruises through gambling cruises, however the industry had taken an unfortunate turn for the worse when the previous operator, SunCruz, had went belly up.
Now the gambling industry is returning to Jacksonville through a new gambling cruise ship, dubbed Jacks or Better.

Port of Palm Beach officials announce the reopening of the selection process for Palm Beach County's next casino cruise liner. On Saturday, after representatives for the Surfside Princess neglected to pay the $25,000 security deposit that was due by August 14 to guarantee a space at the port, Executive Director Manuel Almira anounced he's ready to negotiate with other companies.
"I would like to see a cruise casino ship operating out of the Port of Palm Beach by December of this year. And I see no reason why we can't,'' said Almira.

Just hours venturing into a seven-day Caribbean cruise with his family, a 21-year-old man suffered what was believed to be a severe allergic reaction to food and died on board Norwegian Cruise Line's Epic, forcing hundreds of passengers to return to the Port of Miami early Sunday.
The death of the unidentified young man -- ultimately of a heart attack -- cast melancholy on the beginning of a seven-day Caribbean cruise, which included ports of call in St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Nassau.

39 year old Richard Firth has gone from being a butcher to becoming one of the world's leading marine artists - his art work is being sold worldwide with commanding price tags of up to $65,000.
Firth began sailing to better understand his subject matter, and has recently joined the crew for next year's clipper race set from Brazil to South Africa. The father of two, now residing in Cottingham, has watched his reputation sky rocket in the last few years, following other Yorkshire marine artists.

The Clear Lake Arts Center is showcasing maritime artist Janne Matter in the Hanson Window Gallery this month.
Matter has a passion for marine art, specifically resting wooden and classic boats. Her travels have presented many opportunities to capture the marine environment.
