Boats will be in the waters of Dorchester County this weekend, although not the type you would normally see. The 100th annual Cambridge Classic gets underway today with power boat race speeds of 160 mph.
The boat race event features racers from the American Power Boat Association and will runs through Sunday. "There are power racers from here that travel worldwide to race," says vice president of the Cambridge Power Boat Regatta Association Allen Nelson.

Power boat racer, Dave Villwock reached the 'Big 60' on the Detroit River this past Sunday, securing his 60th career hydroplane race and eighth Gold Cup championship by taking the 101st Jarvis Restoration Detroit American Power Boat Association Gold Cup in outstanding fashion in the U-96 Spirit of Qatar.
It was a excellent weekend of power boat racing for Villwock. He was the top qualifier, winning all four preliminary heats and securing victory in the winner-take-all final. Villwock's eighth Gold Cup victory put him in a tie for second place with famous power boat racer Bill Muncey, and he's three Gold Cup wins behind top leader, Chip Hanauer.

Southampton power boat champion Steve Curtis has managed to maintain his remarkable start to the season.Curtis, along with racing partner Sheikh Hassan, topped the podium for the second week running in Australia.
Curtis, an eight time world champion was competing in two rounds of the Australian Offshore Power Boat Club Class 1 series in Queensland. The Qatar Team sponsored champion had previously helped take a pair of victories down just two weeks ago and in addition won the second of the latest two rounds.

A television production company in Canada is ready to give the sport of offshore power boat racing a massive boost to its visibility by producing a magazine style, 13 episode television series.
Planned to be filmed later in the year, the power boat series will include the US National Offshore Championships off Maryland and the World Championships scheduled for Alabama's Gulf of Mexico coastline.
