A river known to local residents as Red Bud, has relinquished a river boat 95 per cent intact dating back to 1929. Lifelong fishing guide of the area Mike Flippin, reported the news on Wednesday, as he first spotted the object that had the appearance of a staircase on the river bottom in May.
An avid angler on those waters, Flippin said he kept an eye on the object daily as the river waters reduced during the summer months. Towards the end of June, it became obvious that the object was an old boat, he said. With the help of several friends, Flippin was able to raise the old boat and inspect it more closely.

Workers at the World Trade Center site are digging up a 32-foot-long boat hull apparently used in the 18th century as additional fill that extended lower Manhattan into the Hudson River.
According to archaeologist Molly McDonald it was hoped that the artifact could possibly be retrieved by the end of the day on Thursday, as a boat specialist was scheduled to look at it.
McDonald said she wanted to salvage some timbers; it was unclear if any large portions could be lifted intact. "We're basically clearing it by hand because it's extremely fragile, but construction equipment could be used later on." McDonald along with archaeologist A. Michael Pappalardo were at the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks when the discovery was first made on Tuesday morning. "We observed curved timbers that a backhoe brought up," McDonald said Wednesday. "We discovered the rib of a vessel and quickly continued to clear it away and expose the hull over the past two days."
